Dr. Hewawasam completed his MBBS with Honours from the University of Ruhuna, Sri Lanka in 2002, followed by a Doctor of Medicine (MD) from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka in 2009. He then undertook advanced training in Gastroenterology in Sri Lanka, gaining invaluable experience before pursuing a fellowship year at the Alfred Hospitalin Melbourne, Australia.
After returning to Sri Lanka, he practiced as a board-certified Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist. In 2020, Dr. Hewawasam returned to Australia, where he was accepted as a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in 2021, further solidifying his expertise and commitment to high standards in gastroenterology and hepatology.
Dr. Hewawasam prioritizes patient-centred care, working closely with patients to develop tailored treatment plans. He is committed to excelling in his clinical practice, ensuring that his diagnostic and therapeutic interventions meet the highest standards.
Outside of his medical practice, Dr. Hewawasam enjoys spending time with his family. He is also a passionate cricket fan and enjoys playing chess in his free time.

- General Gastroenterology and Hepatology: Dr. Hewawasam has extensive experience in diagnosing and managing a wide range of gastrointestinal and liver diseases.
- Functional Gut Disorders: Special interest in conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and other functional gastrointestinal issues.
- Oesophageal Motility and Reflux Disorders: He has specific expertise in the diagnosis and management of oesophageal motility disorders and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). His skills extend to high-resolution oesophageal manometry and 24-hour pH studies.
- Endoscopy: Dr. Hewawasam is dedicated to maintaining high standards in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, particularly in upper gastrointestinal endoscopy and colonoscopy, emphasizing patient safety and optimal outcomes.
