Dr. Asif Shahzad completed his physician training in South Australia followed by advanced training in general gastroenterology, inflammatory bowel disorders and Hepatology at various hospitals across Adelaide before he was awarded his fellowship from Royal Australasian college of Physicians.Asif developed special interest in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) as well motility disorders of the gut which led him to move to Brisbane to undertake further training at Princess Alexandra Hospital.

Dr. Shahzad is a senior lecturer at Griffith University and actively involved in teaching students and gastroenterology trainees. He also has the privilege of being a college examiner for FRACP examination and facilitator for supervisor professional development programs.

His areas of interest

  • Inflammatory Bowel disease
  • Therapeutic endoscopy including Endoscopic mucosal resection of colonic polyps and Haemorrhoidal banding 
  • Diagnosis and Management of Gastrointestinal bleeding and Capsule endoscopy for iron deficiency anemia
  • General Hepatology  
  • General gastroenterology including Coeliac disease, Heartburn (Reflux disease), Difficulty swallowing (Dysphagia), Chronic Diarrhoea and Irritable bowel Syndrome.
