Clinical Presentations
Patients suitable for referral may include those with:
- Overt gastrointestinal bleeding (haematemesis, melaena)
- Unexplained iron deficiency anaemia
- Occult blood in stool on screening tests
- History of recurrent GI bleeding episodes
How to Refer
Submit a standard gastroenterology referral, noting “GI Bleeding workup”, and include:
- Patient history, including previous bleeding episodes
- Relevant investigations (blood tests, imaging, prior endoscopy or colonoscopy)
- Current medications, particularly anticoagulants or antiplatelet therapy
Referral can be sent via Medical Objects or directly to admin@mygutcare.com.au.
Prerequisites
- Basic blood tests (FBC, iron studies) and prior imaging if available
- Gastroscopy and colonoscopy should be completed before a capsule endoscopy
- Documented symptom history and previous treatments
How We Care for Your Patients
- Assessment to locate the source of bleeding
- Investigations may include endoscopy, colonoscopy, or capsule endoscopy
- Endoscopic or interventional treatment if indicated
- Individualised management plan with follow-up to prevent recurrence
